Building The Car Of Tomorrow

Students from the Hypernova Solar organization built a solar-powered car from a 3d-printer. They plan on sending the Hypernova One — the car model — to the American Solar Challenge in July 2022.

Creativity in Engineering

Lily Patterson, a recent graduate, combined her love of art with skills in engineering to create a 3d model structure for her senior design project. She double majored in art and visual technology and mechanical engineering.

Rising in the Rankings

The Volgenau School of Engineering achieved its highest ranking ever in the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) HERD survey for 2019. Volgenau is also ranked in the top 100 for graduate programs in the new U.S. News & World Report rankings.

Hands-on Learning at New Heights

Students studying aeronautics in the Department of Mechanical Engineering got an up-close look at the mechanics of a helicopter when the Fairfax Police landed one on campus.

Access to Opportunities

The Department of Mechanical Engineering requires a year-long intensive senior design capstone class where students get the opportunity to work with researchers, industry partners, and non-profits to solve real-world engineering problems.
