Our unique blend of faculty expertise, incredible location, and active industry partnerships ensure that mechanical engineering students have access to a range of programs that will enrich their college experience.
Opportunities include:
-
Senior design projects. The capstone design courses provide students with an industry-like experience that includes technical, business, and professional skill development. Projects often include engineering proposal development, design, simulation, analyses, fabrication, tests, and related program management activities. For more information, contact Nathan M. Kathir (703-993-6233).
-
Internships. Our faculty members help students get meaningful, paid internships throughout the year. Our students intern with companies such as Dewberry, Micron Technology, Alliance Structural Engineers, Trident Space, TTM Technologies, NASA Langley Research Center, Enginuity Power Systems, Northrop Grumman, Fannie Mae, and others.
-
Sponsored research. The Office of Student Scholarship, Creative Activities, and Research (OSCAR) connects students with faculty to conduct research.
-
Travel funding. Mason’s Undergraduate Student Travel Fund (USTF) supports research and scholarly-related travel for undergraduates.
-
MASON-NOVA ADVANCE. Students can earn an associate of science degree in engineering from Northern Virginia Community College and then come to Mason for a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering through the George Mason University and Northern Virginia Community College ADVANCE program.
