    College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) Professor Janis Terpenny has joined the National Science Foundation Division of Civil, Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation (CMMI) where she will serve in the expert role and lead in the creation of CMMI’s Manufacturing System Integration program.

    Last spring the college offered an interactive, discussion-based course that investigated the history of contributions by engineers marginalized by race or gender and studied cases where a lack of diversity contributed to adverse engineering consequences.

    Lily Patterson knew she wanted to make things when she began her studies at George Mason University.

    “I just wanted to turn physical things into something that’s really cool and awesome,” she said.
